Air Fare Question-

air fare question- Posted 25 October 2005
Last year, if a flight was booked Jfk to Paris round trip, the fare was about $500.00 including taxes, etc. for travel until about mid to end of May 2005. This was between Jan and March. Right now the fare is about $600.00 for this May, 2006. For you people who are "in the know" do the fares tend to drop again in the beginning of the new year? Also due to rise in fuel costs, does it seem more likely that the $500 fare would be closer to $550 or so? There are three of us traveling, so I am trying to pick the most sensible time to book. Three weeks ago the flights were about $575, now up $20. Expedia's fare compare is only domestic.

It's always '..possible..' that you will find a better airfare...but the cost of jet fuel ain't comin' down all that much over the next several months....at least....nor are other operating costs. It's possible that DELTA and NORTHWEST, currently in Chapter 11 (along with UNITED and US AIR) may reduce fares on some routes to raise desparately needed cash...and that other airlines on these same routes may have to respond with their own sales and discounts.....but all of this is simply '..airfare roulette..'. If there were anyone who actually knew what was going to happen to airfares over the next several months, they could put it between covers and sell it for a few million---and then charter their own private jet to Paris.
