The very best cheap pocket map you can get for Paris is called "Paris Pratique par Arrondissement" which you can buy at any news stand. It makes navigating the city easy, so much so that one can imagine that the introduction of such map-books might be part of what made the arrondissement concept so popular in the first place.
Google maps are great but they don't have the schematic version for Paris.
Here are some great schematic map I found on internet.

yes, i agree! there are times when google maps can be quite confusing and they may miss out on some details. it is also quite difficult to locate a certain area especially if it is not popular or registered in google maps. i find the schematic map posted by Admin to be more helpful and it points out most if not all of the important tourist spots there is to visit in Paris. Hope it works with you as well!

If it is for your trip to Paris, I think you should buy it in a shop, nearby any metro, be sure to look at the sightseeing points on your map. That would be really helpful. I think the price is somewhere 2 euros. Been to Paris last summer and that was just awful, anyway that's just another story then.

I have recently discovered a nice group that organizes cultural events in Paris. I have been to several events, including a weekend trip and I have had some really positive experience. The people I have met are mostly expatriates and exchange students and overall attitude is positive and relaxed.
I thought I would share it with people on this forum. This group is located on meet up website and called "travel and excursion in France and Europe"
They have upcoming tour to Champagne, might be a nice opportunity to meet some new people.
