UK Loses A Disk With Life-important Information

UK loses a disk with life-important information Posted 11 October 2008
LONDON

The Ministry of Defense said a disk was lost which contained details on about 100,000 (plus data about 600,000 potential recruits) serving British military personnel. The institution which is blamed is the EDS (Electronic Data System) which lost the track of the hard drive

The military confirmed a report in The Sun newspaper that contractor EDS lost track of a portable hard drive.

Still the EDS said it's not sure about the information carried on the disk. "We don't know what's on it, and we don't even know if there's anything on it," said a defense spokesman.

If the disk was stolen and gets to insecure hands, the life of those men registered on the disk might be endangered. Besides, the entire British military system will become vulnerable.

UK spends tens of millions pounds yearly for boosting its security system. Actually, its security system is considered to be one of the best in the world. What now? Tax payers' money were blown in the wind. Also, this may reduce the number of men willing to serve militarily UK, as no guarantee are offered to them.
