French Cheques, Bank Accounts and Whatnot

Postby krev » 24 October 2008

I am in Paris until March and have a full time job. I have been given a french pay cheque for CIC. The problem is, I cannot get the money because I don't have a french bank account and cannot open one as I do not have fixed accommodation... I could get the bills sent to my sister (also in Paris) but she doesn't have the bills to prove residency. Are there any banks/accounts that do not need prove of residency to open an account? or is there somewhere I can cash the cheque?
I have a Nationwide account in England, would I maybe be able to send the cheque there, to put the money in the account to withdraw here by card.
Please help, any advice appreciated, I am very stuck and confused!
Thanks and Merci! :)

Hi there Krev,
All I can help you with is give you two links for French commercial banks, contact them and ask whether they can offer you this service

Hello. You should be able to deposit your French cheque in your home Bank account. YOu can also open a French bank account with a foreign address so long as you show proof of that address.

Do a google search for "Credit Agricole - Paris Direct International"

Best of luck

Hey there Krev! This would be a pretty late post, but it looks like you got some pretty good advices from fellow forum members. I hope it worked out well for you, maybe you can share your experience about it; for other people who may be going through the same thing..
