MALLET-STEVENS on Paris forum

ShowMustGoOn
MALLET-STEVENS If you've ever visited Rue Mallet-Stevens, built in 1927 in Paris' 16th arrondissement, you're already familiar with the Modernist villas of Robert Mallet-Stevens, but the architect was also a gifted interior designer. Lesser known, and less of a purist than Le Corbusier, Mallet-Stevens' career was cut short by World War II. He died in 1945, and his last important works date to 1937 before he took his family to safety in the South of France. He left behind an impressive body of work, including the recently restored Villa Noailles in Hyères. The Centre Pompidou has put together the first important retrospective of his work in France, including original drawings, furniture, writings, photos, architectural models and video projections that will give the visitor the impression of entering a Mallet-Stevens building. Robert Mallet-Stevens, Architect. Centre Pompidou. Through August 29. Open daily 11am-9pm. Closed Tuesday. Place Georges Pompidou, 75004. Metro Hôtel-de-Ville, Rambuteau. http://www.centrepompidou.fr/
