Hi, Sorry to say that my first post on the forum is not an extremely interesting one! I have this horrible polyester hot pink tshirt from years ago... and was hoping to revamp it with some clothes dye. Have a feeling that non-natural fibres may not dye so well? Where would I get this done? Thanks! :)

My cousin works at a clothes dying place and i asked him to dye a dress for me which contained polyester and he said it wouldnt work so not to bother! So i didnt. Let us know if you have any luck!

Thanks... after having phoned around I thinkn thats the general concensus! Oh well, will just have to buy new one (and better quality too!)!

hey hun, i'm a textiles student - sorry to confirm that it most definetly wont work! Polyester just wont take the dye at all BUT look on the fibre content label because if its poly/something else, it will colour... i recently dyed this champagne coloured satin corset black(being fair skinned i look seriously ill in this beige colour), anyway was half poly, half nylon and so with only the nylon taking to the colour, it went this beautiful pearly grey oyster colour. Try it if it's blended, but use a colour stronger than the result you're after yeah? good luck!

Hmmmm..... well it just says outer: polyester/elastane, lining:polyester Doesn't say percentages or anything... feel so embarrassed at having such a bad quality dress! Maybe I'll just take the gamble... no big loss if it doesn't work. It probably wouldn't have a high % of elastane in it though, eh? What do you think... take the gamble? I'm really fair skinned and I don't think that HOT HOT pink is very flattering on me!!

You may aswell give it a go if you don't think you will wear it hot pink, nothing lost in that case.

Polyester cannot be dyed using noncommercial dye preparations (i.e., Rit and other dyes that can be found at stores like Wal-Mart). A polyester/cotton garment would need to be at least 60% cotton to accept noncommercial dyes. In your instance, the cotton would dye black, but the polyester would not, leaving you with a garment that makes you think
